We regret that Le Moulin de Pensol is no longer able to accommodate Trump supporters, climate change deniers or Tesla drivers.
If you voted for Trump, or would have done had you had the opportunity, if you have found yourself saying things like “oh he’s not too bad at least he’s getting things done” we respectfully ask you to find somewhere else to stay.
This is not a drill. This is not a joke. This is not happening in a country far away that has nothing to do with France. The USA has been taken over by an authoritarian, fascist regime and in Europe, we know all too well how that ended last time it happened.
If you share stuff on social media that doubts the validity of climate change, we do not want you to come and sleep in our sheets. Climate chaos is real, its happening and it’s going to affect all of us in the VERY near future. The time for debating this is over. We don’t have the energy for your cute arguments about how much carbon it takes to build a wind turbine. Trust us, these sums have been done by grownups and some loner sitting in his parents basement on his laptop has not discovered a flaw in the predictive models of thousands of scientists. They would all give anything to be wrong.
They’re not wrong.
If you believe that nature is a luxury we cant afford, desire to kill all the moles in your garden because they’re destroying the lawn, or believe that the housing crisis is caused by great crested newts – please find a soulless chain hotel to stay in. (We appreciate this excludes most of the current UK front-bench Labour Party, but we are where we are.)
Do you drive a Tesla? You are not welcome to park at Le Moulin de Pensol and use our domestic charging facilities any longer. Please go somewhere else. I think there’s a Tesla charger in Périgueux. The exception to this is if you display a bumper sticker that says “we bought it before he became a bellend.” We all make mistakes. Musk is bank rolling this evil empire. We are not interested in enabling his enablers.
If, however, you are woke, black, white, brown, gay, transgender, non-binary, a jew, vegan, have a favourite beetle, care what you buy and what you eat, worry about the world, or work in professional nature conservation – we are here for you. You are our tribe, our people – we love you. Bienvenue. Welcome.
Some things are up for debate and not everybody agrees with us on everything – and this is fine. I, for example, dislike Hobnobs, think Yorkshire Tea is too strong and think the UK should retain the monarchy as the least worst option. I am happy to have a robust exchange of views with you on these and other subjects on Bluesky or over a cup of tea. (I’ll bring my own.)
Other things are not up for debate, and Trump, Vance and Musk et al is definitely one of them. All our lives we have been raised on good versus evil stories. God versus the devil, Hansel and Gretel versus the witch, the galactic empire versus the rebel alliance, Harry Potter versus Voldemort. And now here we are. The great evil of our generation has arrived. It is time to take up our wand/lightsaber and go to war.
