Rural Holiday Accommodation in France

Le Moulin de Pensol is a delightful former water mill and barn, converted into holiday gites and B&B accommodation.

The pretty River Bandiat flows through the middle of the site between the buildings which are set in extensive grounds full of animals, birds, butterflies and trees. We are committed to making Le Moulin a low carbon and sustainable  business.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy wild swimming, walk for miles, cycle on quiet roads, enjoy the flora & fauna or just sit and read a book with a glass of wine, Le Moulin de Pensol is your perfect rural holiday accommodation in France.

The biodiversity of Le Moulin is outstanding. We have recorded 64 different species of butterfly in our gardens alone. Golden Orioles sing in the trees around the buildings and some lucky guests may even get to see a fire salamander. We also have four donkeys, two horses and a mule who help us look after the meadows. Our pig and chickens will always make you feel very welcome.

We offer two gites for couples, one gite with three bedrooms, and three B&B rooms which are also sometimes let together as a large gite.

What we offer

Breakfast and Evening Meals

Breakfast is available for all guests. Our freshly baked croissant and baguettes, yoghurt, jam, butter, mini cakes and tea and coffee can be delivered to your gite, or taken in the spacious kitchen of the Mill House for B&B guests. Simple tables d'hotes meals are available by request. Vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters are all welcome.

Pool

We have a small unheated pool, perfect for cooling off on the scorching days of summer in the south of France. The pool is shared between all the guests on site.

Gardens, Nature and Animals

We have 20 acres of land for guests to explore and enjoy. Benches and hammocks are dotted around here and there, so you can always find a quiet spot in which to relax. Our dwarf pigs entertain and amuse everyone.

All published rates include VAT where applicable (and local taxes) at the current rate.
Rates are per room per night. If you have selected supplements they will be added to the total price of the booking.

Rates quoted are correct only for the specific number of guests, nights and dates shown. Should you change the number of guests, dates or room nights, then the rates are subject to change.

The minimum stay for gites is 3 days in the quiet season rising to 7 days in July and August. For B&B rooms the minimum stay is 1 night.

We currently operate a Covid-Cancellation Policy. If you are unable to travel due to Covid restrictions we will give you the opportunity to book a date in the future or we will cancel your booking and refund the full amount. Normally we will not ask for any payment upfront for direct bookings. If you need to cancel we simply ask that you give us as much notice as possible.

We love dogs and have 3 of our own. Guests are welcome to bring up to 2 well behaved dogs per gite booking. The price is €10 per dog per night. Please keep them on a lead while on site and of course, please clear up any little presents they might leave. Each gite has a small fenced garden area for use by your dog. There are miles of walks directly from Le Moulin.

We ask that dogs are not left unattended in the gîtes.

Sadly we do not allow dogs in the B&B rooms due to the communal breakfast room and living areas and proximity to other guests.

Cats are also permitted – same rules and pricing apply but cats must be kept indoors at all times. (Our dogs are not cat-lovers).

We are 45 minutes south west of Limoges in departement 87 Haute Vienne on the border of the Dordogne and the Charente. The area used to be known as the Limousin but is now part of the region called Nouvelle Aquitaine. The address for google maps and sat nav is Le Moulin de Pensol, 1 Le Moulin, 87440 PENSOL.

We currently have a beautiful climate here in the Limousin. Mostly hot and dry in the summer with plenty of rain in the winter to keep us green and lush. Not for nothing are we called “Perigord Vert”. But the climate is changing and heatwaves and unusually wet springs are becoming more common.

Our nearest village of Marval is 3Km away. It has an excellent village store that sells everything you might need. Larger supermarkets are just a 15 minute drive away. See our Things to Do section for more info (link).
