Dog Friendly Accommodation in France

Pet-Friendly Retreats in France: Bring your dog with you to Le Moulin de Pensol

Dog Friendly Accommodation in France

We love dogs, and all of our accommodation is dog friendly. This means that you can bring your four-legged companion with you on holiday, so that they can enjoy the time away as well.

Why take your dog on holiday with you? Anyone who has ever had to look into a pair of much-loved brown eyes and then walk away as you leave them behind in kennels will not need to ask that question!

Le Moulin de Pensol is the perfect place to bring your dog on holiday. We have miles of dog friendly walks and trails on the doorstep, allowing you to explore the trails of the PNR Perigord Limousin.

Self-contained garden areas and gates

The gites called Bouleau, Chataignier and Cerisier all have small fenced gardens, meaning you can let your dog have a little freedom without disturbing other guests. (NB  Le Moulin gite does not have this which is useful to know if you are trying to decide between Chataignier and Le Moulin.).

This is also excellent for non dog owners who may not want their evening aperitif disturbed by the arrival of someone else’s hound.

The floors are easy to clean tiles and we have a relaxed attitude to dogs upstairs. We just ask that if your dog insists on sitting on the furniture with you, that you bring some extra covers and try to keep pawprints and hair to a minimum. We don’t charge a damage deposit and the 10€ per night per dog surcharge is to cover extra cleaning costs.

Guests are welcome to bring up to 2 well behaved dogs per gite booking. The price is €10 per dog per night. Please keep them on a lead while on site and of course, clear up any little presents they might leave.

We ask that dogs are not left unattended in the gîtes at any time or for any reason.

No insecticides please!

Please do not treat your dog for fleas, ticks or worms before coming to Le Moulin de Pensol.

The products used in Frontline etc are toxic to all insects, not just parasites – including butterflies. Birds collect the dog hair for their nests and the chemicals kill the chicks. Dung beetles go to break down the poo and are poisoned. Recent research shows that these chemicals can persist even longer than a month after treatment. And please do not allow your dog into the river as the chemicals are even more dangerous for aquatic life.

Here is a link to a video on this subject by the man who did the research – Dave Goulson.

cats are also welcome

Your canine companions aren’t the only pets who can visit our gîtes. Cats are also permitted to stay with you too. We’ve also had a chinchilla in the past. And a parrot.

Basically, the same rules and pricing that apply to dogs staying with you in our gîtes also apply to your other animals as well with the additional that we insist that cats be kept indoors at all times. Please do not let them out. Our dogs are not cat-lovers, and we wouldn’t want your pet to stray or have any sort of a mishap. Please bring your own litter tray.
