We're in the middle of nowhere - the peace and quiet is glorious, but that doesn't mean you have to go without fresh baguettes for breakfast. We have a local shop just 5 minutes up the road and numerous supermarkets a pleasant 15 minute drive away.
Epicerie de Marval is our closest shop in the neighbouring village of Marval. It sells absolutely everything from bread and milk to maps and cleaning products. It is under new management with more regular opening hours as follows below:
Bread is available without ordering but sells out early. To be sure of your baguette fix you can order the day before, or ask us and we will do it for you. It's a 15 minute cycle ride or a 5 minute drive away. We can always pick up any provisions for you if you don't have a car or can't be bothered. Just ask.
For larger shops there are supermarchés at Nontron (Super U - doesn't shut for lunch), Cussac (Intermarché - the closest supermarket), Piegut-Pluviers (Intermarché), Chalus (large Intermarché), St Mathieu (Casino) and St Saud Proxi). Remember the French lunch time is sacred, so many shops are shut for at least 2 hours.
There are proper boulangeries at Dournazac and St Saud (closest), Abjat-sur-Bandiat and all the market towns mentioned above.
The nearest Pharmacie is St Saud or Dournazac.
